Tina Turner: legend, icon, queen of rock n’ roll. Admired by many, but none as much as Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones, who invited her to join them on tour in 1969.
Their performances were the stuff of legends and hailed by critics; Mick Jagger credits Tina with teaching him how to move onstage. Their friendship was nurtured by their love of music and spanned decades - in July 1985, at the Live Aid benefit, Mick Jagger performed Miss You and stopped the show to ask, “Where’s Tina?”. Out she came in all of her glory, those infamous legs strutting and twisting with her rock n’ roll fuck it attitude and energy of unapologetic freedom.
Mick follows her lead, totally captured by her shine, tapping into her liberation and letting loose, stomping around, tearing up the stage. I take it as a lesson - to let your essence radiate joy and to share it with others. To get back in the world, find a friend, say fuck it, and let your light shine.
